Lindy and Blues in...
What, where, when?
Lindy Reunion Exchange is a reunion of the old school Lindy Hoppers that were there building the scenes and exchanges we grew to know and love. It is also a chance to experience the Lindy Hop that was birthed from those dancers as they studied under the greats like Frankie Manning, Norma Miller, Dawn Hampton, and other founding Lindy Hoppers. Lindy Hop came into its own and you can see that smooth sultry style that was the Lindy we loved.Buy a ticket
Thursday - February 12th Pub Crawl
It is exchange tradition to have a Thursday night activity for those willing to arrive early. Come join us while we dine, dance, and drink our way through downtown Tulsa.
Friday - February 13th Lindy Dance, Blues Dance, and House Party
Like in the days of old... okay about 10 years ago, we didn't have separate Blues Dancing events; the Blues Dancing happened at Lindy Exchanges as the night went on.
Saturday - February 14th Lessons, TOSS Valentines Dance, Late Night Dance, and another House Party
Your registration includes a pass to the annual TOSS (The Oklahoma Swing Syndicate) Valentine's Dance; a $15 value unto itself. And of course more dancing into the night. We will also be hosting classes prior to the dancing to teach many styles and techniques that have seemed to have gone dormant lately.
Sunday - February 15th Lessons, Blues Box Blues (Featuring the Tardis), and Late Night Swing
Calling all Whovians (people who like Doctor Who)! The Tulsa Tardis will be making an appearance this weekend, so feel free to cosplay that night however you like; I'd just make sure you can dance in it.
Located in Tulsa, OK
Not only is Tulsa very central for traveling dancers to reach, but it also has a strong role in the history of early Lindy Exchanges. Not to mention is very economical for travel, venues, and stay!
February 12-15th, 2015
That's right, four days!
The early exchanges had a pre-game night on Thursday, and in recognition of the first New Orleans Lindy Exchange in 2003, we will be hosting a pub crawl in Downtown Tulsa!
Friday the 13th
7:00pm - 11:00pm Lindy Horror Picture Show - Main Dance
Since our main dance is on Friday the 13th, we thought it best to build out themes around this delightful happenstance. Interpret the theme how you will, but come ready for some old-school Lindy exchange style music and dance!
11:00pm - 2:00am B Movies Blues - Late Night Dance
Keeping in classic Lindy Exchange tradition, as the night goes on, the music gets slower. Our late nights will be Blues Dancing... Lindy Hop's sexy sister.
2:00am - ? Birthday Blues Bash - House Party
What would a traditional Lindy Exchange be without late night house parties. Since several of our organizers are celebrating their birthday this weekend, we planned the first house party around a celebration in their honor.
A little info for the newbies Alcohol
Per the early exchange tradition, there will be alcohol served at this event. However, the event does not condone under aged drinking. Some of the house parties may be 21+, upon the host's request.
Saturday the 14th
3:00pm - 5:00pm Classes
Even though it is not traditional exchange tradition to have classes, we wanted to have a couple each day for the tenured teachers to show what Lindy Hop and Blues Dancing used to be. Class details TBA.
7:00pm - 11:00pm Valentine's Dance - Main Dance
We are honored to have The Oklahoma Swing Syndicate (aka TOSS) endorse and participate in our Reunion Exchange. We will be joining their annual dance at no additional charge to our registrants. The dance is formal and includes a live big band orchestra.
11:00pm - 2:00am Singles Awareness Dance - Late Night
Come Blues Dance your heart out as we celebrate singlehood... the couples can come too. ;-)
2:00am - ? Sugar and Spice - House Party
Got to love ambiguous themes... keep your dance and party spirit going late into the night with a house party with "everything nice". ;-)
Sunday the 15th
3:00pm - 5:00pm Classes
Our classes continue with some more re-education of the smooth and groovy nature of the Lindy Hop we all knew and loved.
7:00pm - 11:00pm Blues Box Blues - Main Dance
The Tulsa Tardis will be making an appearance at our event for this Doctor Who themed dance. Come dressed in your Whovian fandom and enjoy just how many dancers are fans of the Doctor. (pictures will be available)
11:00pm - 2:00am Swung Over
Get you final fix our of our last dance. Squeeze every last drop of goodness out of having the biggest concentration of great dancers in once place all year.
Monday Options For those who "don't want to go"
If you plan on making your stay longer, there will be locals taking Monday off to help host and enjoy your company.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between today and 10 years ago?
About ten years ago, Lindy Hop was a smooth, & some would say, sexy dance. The exchanges were more than just a dance; they changed lives & made life long connections. They were also a place many of us discovered who we were & found a new confidence in life.
Why such a price difference in all the brackets?
Event planning & management requires specific momentum. By providing the first 50 people such a reduced rate, we were able to get our minimum attendance & finances to make the event happen. From there, the prices are fairly typical for exchanges.
Is there housing?
Yes! There is housing! We have more local dancers opening up their homes for out of state guests every day. We have a housing request form bellow. We cannot guarantee your will get in, which is why we have also arranged discounts with local hotels.
What kind of music will there be?
Many kinds, in short. We will have some Lindy DJs from years ago, Blues DJs, & even contemporary Blues/Fusion DJs. One of the delights of exchanges from the past is that we were more concerned with having fun & being creative, then historical preservation.
